Found a 65' Dart on Dragnet.

The white one on the left. It’s a 4 door sedan, mine is a blue 2 door hardtop.

Since you seem to have a sincere lover for mid 60's Mopars, have I told you about my dad’s 64 Dodge 330 Police Car?

OH! You have a classic Colt? I need you to weigh in on this one please! It’s still available and I’m debating this and a classic Mini.

I have a Dart. I think the Colt was some sort of import.

That one looks rough. Wouldn’t pay more than $700.

Oh shit! Haha. I just read what I wanted to read. My bad. Agreed though. I wouldn’t go over a grand but something about it is so interesting to me.

I find ones like mine often on Craigslist for under $2k American. I’d get a non imported (as in US/ Canadian built, not from Japan.) 60s or 70s Chrysler.

Meticulously restored with a 318 V8 and push button transmission. All the original police radios, sirens and lights. Sirens and lights are all functional.

It’s the proper paint scheme for 1964 police cars from the town in NJ we used to live in, except they didn’t have a #7 car, the fleet wasn’t that large back then! 7 was our house number haha.

That’s cool. Is there any problem with driving a marked police car on the street? It’s obviously not in service but not everyone would know that.

They only potential complication is unless he’s in a parade (which he’s been asked to drive in countless parades with his lights on) he’s not allowed to use the lights or sirens on a public road. He can turn them on in a car show parking lot or in the driveway, but not on a public road.

That makes sense. This is probably a stretch of this law but do you think I could buy a Raleigh police patrol car from public auction (they sell them with paint and no decals) and make my own decals and just not use lights? They still use crown vics so I think it might be frowned upon.

Do not put decals on lol

I believe he gets a pass because of that “Historic” license plate on the car.

You could keep the paint the same though. They’ll take the lights off too. See them all the time up here in Michigan. A lot of people buy used state patrol cars which are just all blue crown vics and Tahoes

How long would it take for me to legally put decals on it though? It’s a very blurry kinda law. State law only says civiliana can’t have lights installed.

And NC antique plates don’t make much sense.

I wonder if in the future anyone will have police vics in parades.

Haha, I bet they will. It’ll take a while though.

Your antique plates probably require 25 years.

That also means you’re only supposed to drive it to and from events (at least in Michigan) even though no one complains ever. I bet you’d have to really piss off a cop to have him complain.

35 years old I can run year of manufacture plates. Municipal ones are hard to find thought.

year of manufacture plates typically have the same restrictions as historic/antiques though.

I have the option on the Montego but 1968 was an off year for good looking plates here in Michigan.

The plate patina matches the car.

And here in NC the YOM plates are legal to run as long as you keep your other plate inside the vehicle. It carries the same restrictions of the plate that’s registered to the car. So it’s on a standard passenger plate so no restrictions.

We also don’t have to tell the DMV what Yom plate we’re running. DE-8616 haso no ties to a Dodge dart, it’s actually currently used on a weighted plate on a 1997 F-250.

Why not use another 1968 plate from outside of Michigan? I know the NC law doesn’t specify that it has to be an NC plate, just YOM.

Never thought of running one from a different state I don’t know if we’re allowed. And in Michigan you have to actually register that YOM plate to the vehicle, it’s just you tell THEM what the plate number is going to be instead of the other way around haha
